THC and CBD: What’s the Difference?
It may be a bit confusing when you get to talking about cannabis and the seemingly endless ways it’s put to use for our benefit. At The Kannakraft Shop, we are here to help you navigate the many possibilities and explore the types of cannabis products that may fit your lifestyle. In today’s changing world, we now see aspects of both CBD and THC legalized and you may be finding yourself wondering how two compounds of the same plant can be so different. In reality, it may actually be easier to list off the qualities they have in common vs the difference in cannabinoids. So if they’re so similar, does all cannabis get you high?
THC
THC is the psychoactive and most common cannabinoid found in cannabis. THC bonds nicely with CB1 and CB2 receptors in our body to eliminate pain and cause the euphoria we refer to as high. Used widely for both recreational and medicinal purposes, the effects of THC are reported to be beneficial for inflammation which is the underlying cause of so many ailments.
With all medicines, there are side effects of these healing qualities. For some, we don’t see these as side effects at all, but as the intention of the high. While not here to pass judgment, we noticed the relaxation and sedation that many feel unwinds and decompresses the long day leaves some feeling uneasy.
Whether you’re trying to get more acquainted with your couch and peace of mind or treat a life sentence of chronic pain, marijuana can be consumed in a plethora of ways to suit anyone. From edibles to flower, concentrates to topicals, we suggest exploring the many avenues that THC occupies for yourself and finding what’s right for you.
CBD
While there are over 100 cannabinoids discovered so far, there is so much more to the cannabis plant than just THC. CBD shares ingestion methods and the fact that it also comes from the same plant as THC. Mostly every other aspect of the two cannabinoids is different, from the way they interact with our body to the ability to pass a drug test. Many users applaud THC and attribute it to relieving anxiety, but some see things in a different light.
While getting high seems like a leisure activity to one, to another it may trigger feelings of worry and discontent. CBD works differently in our body than THC, naturally increasing endocannabinoids already present. Rather than being on cloud 9, CBD users report being less foggy and more level-headed. While still alleviating pain, this simple difference in binding within our bodies means CBD can be effective in broadening the cannabis plant’s reach to the mental health community. Because it plays off our body’s natural endocannabinoid system, CBD tends to be a more widely tolerated portion of the cannabinoids in cannabis.
No “Right” or “Wrong”
What may work wonders for one, can cause another great turmoil. When comparing THC and CBD, it is important to outline key differences in effects and the way they interest within the body. The cannabis plant is revolutionizing the way we as a society sees medicine and human rights. We humans are inquisitive by nature, and still have a long way to go in fully understanding cannabis and it’s effects on us.
